Situated on the Whitehead Peninsula of Ma On Shan, our show flat at the Altissimo residence offers tenants an oasis away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Hong Kong. With the Tolo Harbour and Starfish Bay surrounding the property, it is truly a safe haven where residents will feel in touch with nature.

Our vision for this show flat was to strike a balance between practicality and style, giving way to a space that doesn’t feel overly designed yet evokes the familiar, comforting feelings of a home – a luxurious one! We placed an emphasis on solid eco-wood furniture with varying, naturally occurring wood grains that add an alluring depth and texture to the look of each room. Each piece was carefully considered to ensure that there is function and purpose to each space, while a natural palette of sunshine yellow, soft blush, silver grey and dots of gold create an aesthetic flow throughout the home. Every room features full-length windows left unobstructed to allow an abundance of light to flood in and create an extended living room, but we included a set of curtains – a sheer layer and a heavier drape – to add a soft dimension and filter light as needed. Lamps from our natural lighting collection were also strategically placed throughout the unit, allowing residents to create a warm, inviting ambience and the option of brighter lighting in the evening with LED pendant lights.

This particular show flat enjoys an outdoor terrace that runs along the length of the flat and can also be accessed from the living room and master bedroom. Complete with thoughtfully curated furniture and lush greenery, it is indeed a serene and naturally stunning entrance to welcome guests into the property.

This is a home that is of nature and nurture: mainly incorporating natural, renewable materials for an environment where one can relax and rejuvenate.

Upon entering the four-bedroom flat, visitors are greeted with a shared dining and living room – a modern open plan concept where friends and family can gather. The space was designed with flexibility in mind, and we couldn’t think of a more suitable piece than our European-designed Slice extendable dining table, crafted from FSC™-certified solid teak. Its uniquely beveled, ‘sliced’ edge adds a floating effect, while a cleverly hidden extension enables tenants to accommodate for larger parties as needed. Sitting adjacent is our Ancestors cupboard, designed by Carlos Baladia who was inspired by Africa’s rich Tabwa culture. Expertly crafted in black-tinted teak and mixed woods, this cupboard features hand-carved geometric details on its door panels, along with a slim line metal frame for a lighter, lifted appearance. The result is a global-inspired contemporary piece, with a tactile finish that adds layers of texture to the space. We incorporated bespoke artwork and upholstered dining chairs to complete the look, which inject a jolt of sunshine to the room whilst complimenting the overall feeling of this warm but light and inviting home.

The best seat in the house is our Amor sofa, which features a gently curved back and slimline steel legs for a sleek and structured seat. Its angled design helps define the area without disrupting the natural flow between the living and dining room. This fluidity is further enhanced by two coffee tables and a side table, which come from the same Ancestors collection styled in the dining area and connect the spaces together. Functionality and style also come hand in hand, as seen in our European-designed Oscar sideboard. Crafted from sustainably sourced natural and black stained teak, each door has hand carved grooves that subtly add dimension, while open and closed compartments offer an abundance of space to store and display belongings. We also included a selection of decorative accessories handcrafted from recycled glass, lava stone, petrified wood and natural teak – naturally unique accessories that truly turn this house into a home.

The first bedroom was transformed into a guestroom, where we used a combination of natural solid European oak wood furniture and clean-lined designs to create the look of a haven for rest and relaxation. The bed is dressed in a colour palette of soft blush, powder blue and silver grey that pair wonderfully with the room’s statement wall, which features a shade of dusty blue and white geometric motifs for visual impact. Meanwhile, the golden wood grains seen in the soft, sandy oak wood harmonise with the hints of yellow and amber tones dotted throughout the rest of the apartment. Slimline wall shelves maximise the room’s vertical space while keeping to its clean and pared-back look, and provide a chic space to display finishing touches for added personality. The soft colour palette and play on textures foster a lovingly layered look – a peaceful sanctuary that overnight guests will never want to leave.

Painted in cobalt and sky blues, the kid’s bedroom offers a ‘cool den’ for a young boy to escape into his own world of wonder, exploration and creativity. We wanted to incorporate robust and stylish furniture choices crafted from solid reclaimed teak, which boast warm wooden grains that beautifully compliment the room’s cool tones. Each piece adds an efficiency to the space with their multifunctional use of storage options: from under-the-bed drawers to keep clothes, books and toys, to a characterful coat rack to hang jackets and other clothing. Positioned in the corner of the room lies our Kayu wardrobe, which features a timeless design and ample storage for your little one to store garments now and for future years. While our Simply City has a slim line silhouette well suited for this petite space, its ladder-inspired design also acts as a playful, inspirational metaphor, reminding us to climb high while never losing sight at what’s important in life. Skateboards, gadgets and a basketball complete the look and personality of the room. Indeed, this is a vibrant, stimulating yet calming space perfect for the inquisitive child.

Slim silhouettes and sleek contrasts were the main of focus of the study room, which add a design element whilst creating an environment conducive to productivity. Our Cell racks perfectly fit the bill, with their light, creamy tones of sustainably sourced solid European oak paired against slimline black metal detailing to striking effect. Our Blackbird desk continues this monochromatic story, complete with two drawers integrated underneath to keep stationery and paperwork out of sight for a clean, clutter-free workspace. We’ve matched this with our Anders chair, which features an upholstered seat for comfort along with tapered angular legs for a minimalist and lightweight look. For the final flourish, we opted for a petrified wood dish that adds a touch of natural sophistication, and a chic drinks trolley that can be wheeled out when guests are over and to wherever the party is!

Step into the master bedroom and you’ll find that it is a space designed for both him and her: a pair of overhead fans, wardrobes and mirrors enable each partner to have individual experiences in this shared space. Here, majestic ceilings are also enhanced with full-height mirrors that maximise natural light coming in, while an elongated bed headboard accentuates the full expanse of this naturally stunning sanctuary. Warm teak wood furniture like our signature reclaimed teak bench add a grounding element to the room, and are married with the golden hues of the soft fabrics and artwork that sits above the bed. Together this creates a soft, relaxing and harmonious room where the couple can relax and recharge.

With the terrace, we wanted to create an extension to the living room when the concertina doors are open, and thus played with a soft colour palette that worked seamlessly with both spaces. The sitting area is outfitted with lounge chairs crafted from woven olephin rope, which add organic texture and beautifully compliment the teak table. The dining setting is furnished with a clean-lined teak table and a set of ivory woven chairs, along with an umbrella to provide shade as needed during any alfresco gathering.

We hope our recent show flat project encourages you to look to Hong Kong’s incredible natural surroundings: from incorporating furniture crafted from renewable materials, to simply adding some indoor greenery, bringing nature into your home will certainly a grounding and serene space to relax and unwind.
