How to style your guest room this holiday hosting season
date 07 Dec 2018
The holiday season has officially commenced, and if you are expecting some overnight stays this Christmas, it’s time to start prepping your guest room so that your loved ones feel at ease the moment they step into your abode. Today, we share our top tips on how to take your space to the next level and treat your guests to a comfortable, thoughtful stay.
Make it comfortable
The first thing to consider when styling your guest room is the bed; comfort is key, and you want to be sure to offer a sumptuous sleeping nest your visitors can’t wait to snuggle into after a long (or even short) commute! If you live in a studio flat or find that space is at a premium, we recommend investing in a sofa bed perfectly suited for your living room or study room. Today’s sofa beds come in an abundance of timeless, contemporary styles that are fully equipped with pocket spring and foam mattresses, providing comfort and support that’s as good as their real bed. With a simple pull mechanism, sofa beds enable you to create an additional bedroom in an instant – all within your petite but chic home.
Complete the look of your sleeping nest with a set of throw pillows and bed linens. As the space your guests will retreat to, we recommend sticking to a neutral colour scheme that fosters a sense of tranquility. A monochromatic palette will also enable you to experiment with an array of patterns and fabrics, and give your setting that added textured effect. The result is a lovingly layered look that’ll make your bed extra luxe, cosy and inviting. Be warned, though… your guests may never want to leave!

Make it personal
While the holiday hosting season is often packed with fun-filled dinner soirees and activities, there will certainly be times when your out-of-town guests will want to retreat to their room, kick their feet up and fit in some downtime. Keep a bar cart stocked with your guests’ favourite beverages, fruits and other nibbles in case your loved ones feel parched or crave a snack – it adds a personal touch that certainly won’t go unnoticed. Top it off with a selection of magazines they can enjoy before tucking in for the night, along with a fresh a bouquet that’ll instantly liven up the space.
Keep it toasty
From sipping on a hot cuppa to enjoying some quality time with friends and family, Christmas isn’t simply a season, but a feeling. When decorating your guest room, you want your loved ones to feel that warmth and be at ease upon their arrival, and what better way to imbue that relaxed and inviting ambience than with a beautifully woven rug. We love working with natural jute or thick woven designs, which can add plenty of rich texture and an undeniably cosy appeal to your room. Aside from aesthetics, a rug serves a much more practical purpose: it defines an area, retains heat in your home, and provides a warm barrier between your feet and bare flooring (which is especially seen in Hong Kong homes that are built to keep heat out!)

Go extra with the linens and towels
Creating the perfect sleeping nest is exceptionally personal: some may prefer a thicker blanket to keep them warm throughout the night, while others may require an additional pillow to get a good night’s rest. An extra set of bed linens and pillows neatly displayed on a rack will enable your loved ones to customise the bed to meet their individual needs. Don’t forget to include clean towels and a bathrobe in case your guests might need an extra set during their stay – you want to ensure they have everything conveniently at hand so that they don’t have to scout one out in your linen closet!
