3 Top Tips to be the Host with the Most this Holiday Season

02 Dec 2016

It’s hard to believe that the holiday season is here! Before you know it, you’ll be hosting a stream of family and friends popping over for delicious dinners and overnight stays.

Get a head start on the madness with these helpful tips & tricks for preparing your home for holiday hosting (whilst keeping your sanity in check!).

1. Table Matters

During the holidays, so much of your time will be spent around your dining table, but having a large table that takes up a large amount of space year-round isn’t ideal, especially in Hong Kong’s mostly compact apartments where space is at a premium. Don’t let this stop you from inviting loved ones over for dinner – instead, look for pieces that work around your space and needs. Extendable dining tables give you the flexibility to host gatherings of any size, with a hidden extension that can be pulled out when your guests are over, and pushed back in for a compact piece that fits your everyday space. Whether it’s an intimate meal or a bustling dinner party, you’ll have the perfect sized table that will look fantastic whether it is extended or not!

Pair your extendable dining table with wooden chairs for a classic dining setting or, for a more eclectic, thrown-together look opt for chairs in a mix of styles and materials. Benches are an informal yet inviting option if you find you often have guests over, offering casual, family-style seating and allowing you to tuck your seating neatly under the table when not needed.

2. Double Duty

The more is indeed the merrier, but when you have so many friends or family members visiting for the holidays, how do you ensure everyone has a comfortable stay when all the guest rooms are full, or if your chic but petite home doesn’t have much space to spare?

Try a stylish, contemporary sofa bed that has either a pocket spring or foam cushioning mattress – a double-duty piece that offers as good a night’s rest as a real bed. Look for styles that come with an easy mechanism so that you or your guests can effortlessly transform the sofa to a sleeper. Gone are the days where you had to struggle setting up camper cots or rollaways!

3. Go the Extra Mile

Your space is almost set, but as every host with the most will know, presentation is key! Rise to the occasion and invest in stylish pieces to showcase your pre-meal nibbles and cocktails, which are sure to leave lasting impressions on your guests.

Keep all your barware and spirits on hand with a stylish trolley with wheels, making it accessible and easy for you to prepare your guests’ favourite tipple during cocktail hour. And for the avid wine collector, why not store and display those bottles in style? Wine boxes and racks crafted from reclaimed teak and black iron detailing offer a beautiful setting to store and display your vintages.

Nesting tables and pedestal tables are a brilliant, compact solution for providing extra space for guests to place their snacks and drinks. Nesting tables can be cleverly tucked away inside each other to save space when the party is over whilst pedestal tables look wonderful grouped together in different sizes to display plants and favourite finishing touches when you have your place all to yourself!
